Abseiling at Autridge
Another Base Canyon Besorgues exclusive!
The Autridge pillar towers 230 metres above the river—so high that some even try it with base jumping (cliff jump with parachute). After a 5-minute walk from the car park, we reach the start line: a handrail, a first short abseil to reach the anchor, then… 180 metres of free descent by abseil into the Ardèche Gorges.
Finally, we reach a ledge 60 metres above the Ardèche and follow a steep path back to the car park. The climb back is very physical and involves walking on varied terrain. Participants are asked to help with rigging and derigging (6 ropes of 200 metres), so good physical condition is required.
Abseiling and climbing in Ardèche are very safe activities but extremely impressive! During your abseil descent, you are constantly guided. Groups are limited to 5 people maximum, and a comfortable seat is provided to double the harness. Since 1995, we have guided over 800 people on abseil courses in the Ardèche Gorges—without a scratch, but with unforgettable memories.
What to bring
Sports clothing, walking shoes, cords for glasses, tie up long hair, snack, and water bottle (for return to the car park).
Important
Do not surprise anyone unaware of the activity. The return via the path is strenuous, and participants are asked to help with the ropes. The activity may be cancelled in case of strong wind. Inform your guide of any health issues.
The price includes the guide and full equipment. Remember to wear sports shoes, comfortable trousers or shorts, and bring a small backpack with a water bottle.
You may bring a camera or GoPro (with a safety cord). The Ardèche abseil is accessible to teens from 12 years old. For younger participants, please contact us before booking.
